The Goldstream Food Bank had some extra helping hands on Dec. 15, thanks to a new youth baseball club in Victoria.

Two players and a coach with the Victoria Breakers Youth Baseball Club volunteered to help assemble and hand out hampers to those in need during one of the busiest times of the year for food banks.

Club spokesperson Sherry Caven said helping out in the community is part of the club’s mission, and since they only formed in September this was their first service activity.

“We want to do a lot of either community service or fundraising projects to help out and promote team-building,” she said.

On the baseball side, players aged 13 to 17 are developing their skills and receiving off-season guidance to help them decide where they want to play once the new season starts. Players of all skill and experience levels are welcome to register from all over Greater Victoria. For more information, visit breakersbaseballclub.com.
