Victoria Foundation is bringing back its colouring contest this year to celebrate Random Act of Kindness Day in February.

“We’re running the colouring contest with Black Press again because last year we had a huge response – about 100 entries with all kinds of colouring jobs and messages of kindness were submitted,” said foundation communications manager Kyle Wells.

The drawings are passed along to seniors living at long-term care homes to help brighten their day on Feb. 17.

People have been impacted at every angle because of the pandemic, said foundation CEO Sandra Richardson, adding acts of service and generosity are more important than ever before.

“People are hurting, they’re sad and they’re isolated – any opportunity to listen to them or brighten their day goes such a long way in this environment,” she said. “We try to get everyone in the region to take time to perform some sort of act of kindness while not expecting anything in return.”

The colouring contest winner will receive a $50 Support Local BC E-gift Card and the Victoria Foundation will donate $100 in the name of the winner to the registered charity of their choice.

The contest page will be printed in participating News editions on Jan. 26 and 27, and can be downloaded online at victoriafoundation.ca.

Entrants 12-under can mail or drop off their coloured posters to local Black Press offices. A scanned or photographed entry can also be emailed to info@victoriafoundation.bc.ca. Entries must be received no later than Feb. 16.
