Scottish society celebrates tartans

For the first time, Victoria will celebrate Tartan Day.

Scottish Immigrants have played significant roles in the founding and development of Victoria,” said David Thomson Cook of the St. Andrew’s & Caledonian Society of Victoria. “Therefore we are encouraging all citizens to proudly don the Tartan at work, school or daily activities.”

On April 2, head to Market Square from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Scottish entertainment, shortbread and more.

April 6 marks the official observance of Tartan Day, marking the anniversary of the Scottish Declaration of Independence in 1320.

Historical displays will continue April 3 to 9 at Craigdarroch Castle, and St. Aidan’s United Church will host Kirkin’ O’ the Tartan April 10.
