Victoria Conservatory of Music marks 50 years

Institution plans two major fundraising events this spring

The Victoria Conservatory of Music marks 50 years in the community this year with two events to benefit the institution.

Uncork Your Palate takes place April 30 at the Crystal Garden, where winemakers of the Naramata Bench offer samples of their spring releases with paired food from the city's best restaurants.

Live music and an eclectic silent auction will round out the evening. Tickets are $95.

The conservatory is also hosting its 32nd annual Mother's Day garden tour on May 10 and 11.

Conservatory musicians will serenade attendees through 10 exquisite gardens across the region, from a bamboo oasis to an alpine rock garden.

Tickets are $30 and available at Thrifty Foods, most gardening stores and the Victoria Conservatory of Music, 900 Johnson St.

As part of the 50th anniversary event, the Victoria Soul Choir featuring Checo Tohomaso will perform at the Alix Goolden Hall for just $10 on May 11. Tohomaso has played with the likes of Marvin Gaye and Lionel Ritchie over his impressive career.

Proceeds from all the events benefit the Victoria Conservatory of Music.
