Victoria helps out its sister in need

Victoria and Marioka are sister cities in good times and bad, so when an earthquake struck Japan, the local Victoria-Morioka Friendship Society stepped up.

Society president Bill McCreadie hand-delivered a draft of $20,900 to city officials Tuesday.

As  the capital of one of the hardest hit prefectures in Japan, Morioka has become a disaster-relief centre.

McCreadie's trip to Japan includes visits to coastal communities in the disaster area. He also brought with him donations from the City of Victoria, Monk Office Supplies and Island Savings Credit Union.

He'll present messages of support from local children to a school in the prefecture.
