Victoria's annual Kidney walk starts from Clover Point

Raised awareness, fundraising aims of Kidney Foundation event Aug. 18

More than 250,000 British Columbians suffer from kidney disease, many of whom undergo multiple dialysis treatments every week as they wait for a matching organ donor.

The disease is both under-recognized and often undetectable in its early stages, and diagnosis has increased by 60 per cent in the past decade across Canada.

To help bring awareness to this debilitating and incurable illness, The Kidney Foundation is holding its annual Kidney Walk at Clover Point on Sunday, Aug. 18.

The event begins at 9 a.m. and aims to raise money for families who are dealing with kidney disease. A barbecue and silent auction are scheduled and donations will be collected on site.
