Victoria's living flag sets new record

About 3,222 people wore red or white T-shirts to form the living flag on Canada Day

A human Canada flag created on July 1 on the B.C. legislature lawns has set a new local record, and outpaced this year's goal to have 2,500 participants.

About 3,222 people wore red or white T-shirts to form the living flag, blasting last year's record of 2,100 people.

Victoria has been creating the flag since 2006, but Winnipeg provided some friendly competition by creating its first living flag with about 3,400 people.

"We are delighted to have started this and to see it take off across the country," said Ken Kelly, general manager of the Downtown Victoria Business Association, in a release.

"We may be unable to say for certain who won this year, but next year you can be guaranteed we will have mechanisms for counting in place."
