Fans of Monty Python, Mr. Bean, and Dr. Seuss will find much to laugh about when the comedy duo of James and Jamesy serve up O Christmas Tea at Sidney’s Mary Winspear Centre on Nov. 20.

Aaron Malkin, who plays James, said he and Alastair Knowles, who plays Jamesy, are beside themselves, both literally and metaphorically, to reunite with their audiences after the COVID-19 pandemic restricted live entertainment.

“We are so excited to once again be able to bring friends and family together, especially now, more than ever, we are reminded to dream big, embrace imagination, and celebrate a childlike excitement for merriment,” said Knowles. “There are definitely going to be some surprises for our regular audiences, with whom we’re thrilled to reconnect this season.”

Wordplay, physical comedy and interactive elements invoking classic British pantomimes define O Christmas Tea with James and Jamesy using their imagination and chemistry to create a festive experience.

As for the show itself, its premise is on the adage that we should be careful what we wish. As the world floods with tea, the duo must find innovative and hilarious solutions to keep themselves afloat as they try to make their way back home.

A festive tradition for thousands of theatre-goers, this year’s show includes five dates on Vancouver Island (Courtenay, Duncan, Nanaimo, Sidney, and Victoria) as part of a regional tour across the Pacific Northwest.

The Sidney show starts at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 20, with the Victoria show scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 19 at the Royal Theatre.
