Folkies, fiddlers and students playing concert for Japan at Conservatory

Fiddler extraordinaire Celiidh Briscoe headlines a Saturday afternoon Japan benefit concert (April 9) at the Victoria Conservatory of Music.

Briscoe, accompanied by her father Wayne and local singer/songwriter Paul O'Brien, will round out the two-hour show, which features volunteer musicians and students from the conservatory.

The first half of the show sees O'Brien and his musical family performing, with local folkie Oliver Swain rounding out the set.

The second half of the concert will feature students from the Conservatory of Music, including soloists and a quintet, followed by Briscoe.

The concert runs from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Wood Hall at the conservatory. Admission is by donation, with all proceeds from the event will go to the Red Cross for its Japan earthquake relief fund.
