The young adult sequel to last year's Divergent, starring Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller, whipped up $54 million in its opening weekend.



Shailene Woodley and Insurgent shattered the competition last weekend at the box office, taking in $54 million over its opening weekend – a full $20 ahead of Disney’s live-action Cinderella.

The film is a sequel to last year’s Divergent, and the second in a trilogy based off Veronica Roth’s super-popular young adult novel series. Woodley stars in the lead with co-stars Kate Winslet, Miles Teller, Theo James, and Mekhi Pfifer.

Other movies opening last weekend, and featured in the trailer mash-up above, were The Gunman starring Sean Penn, and revered documentary Seymour an Introduction, a film by actor Ethan Hawke.
