Jennifer Lawrence stars as Katniss Everdeen in the third film in Lionsgate's 'Hunger Games' franchise

In Theatres: Jennifer Lawrence returns with ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part I’

Lawrence reprises her role as Katniss Everdeen in the third film of Suzanne Collins' series. Here's what the Internet has to say...

The Hunger Games is in theatres again, this time with Part I of Mockingjay.

The Internet is taking about it.

  • Grantland‘s Wesley Morris and Alex Pappademas both previewed the penultimate film in Lionsgate’s trilogy (which has been stretched to four films actually because, money).
  • Here’s Morris with his review of the film – ‘The Revolution Will Be … Prolonged: The Enjoyable, Frustrating Third Hunger Games Installment, Mockingjay – Part 1‘.
  • And here’s Pappademas with his cinematic history of all things dystopian, female, and teen – ‘How The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Built a Dystopia From Scraps‘.
  • The film currently carries a 67 per cent rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. (This rating has likely changed by the time you read this.)
  • If you’re unfamiliar with Rotten Tomatoes and its system, this is actually very poor… movies that have just opened or are about to open normally start out high and then get the rating sucked away from them. Starting with only two-thirds of the positive pie isn’t a good sign.
  • (For example, Dumb and Dumber To currently has a 24 per cent rating on Tomatoes. I have to believe it started higher than that last week.)
  • Understanding that to most people over 35 this Hunger Games nonsense probably just seems the same as Twilight or Divergent or The Maze Runner or ‘blah blah blah vampires and boys’, the professional explainers and dumb-downers at Vox have create this walk-through piece, ‘The Hunger Games, Explained‘.
  • Just a throw-back, if you haven’t seen it… here’s The Onion‘s superbly hilarious review of the Hunger Games‘ series second film – Catching Fire – by Peter Rosenthal, who says the problem with the movies so far is, there just aren’t enough hot boys in them. They’re cute, just not hot.
