Well-known Canadian singer-songwriter Susan Jacks will host and perform in a benefit concert to promote organ donation this Saturday.

Jacks received a kidney transplant in February 2010 and was fortunate that her brother Bill – whose name was used for her international hit song Which Way You Goin’ Billy? – was a perfect match. Jacks says she feels blessed that she was able to find a match and now devotes her spare time and energy to promoting the need for organ donation.

The concert will kick off The Kidney Foundation of Canada’s Kidney Health Month in March.

In British Columbia, 85 per cent of people surveyed said they were in favour of organ donation, however, only 17 per cent have registered to be organ donors. The waiting list is five to six years long, and in some cases, people waiting don’t live long enough to receive a transplant.

Jacks feels every opportunity to get the word out about the need for more organ donors is a chance to help reduce the waiting list and help improve the quality of life for people with kidney disease.

The Susan Jacks Benefit Concert will be held on March 10 at 7 p.m. at the University of Victoria’s Farquhar Auditorium.

Tickets are available at auditorium.uvic.ca, $50 reserved seating, $100 VIP seating and includes meet and greet with Jacks after the show.
