Driver crashed in Greater Victoria due to medical emergency, died on scene: RCMP

The 49-year-old had crashed his tow truck near Helmcken Road; lifesaving measures were unsuccessful

A man who experienced a medical emergency while driving on the Trans-Canada Highway near Helmcken Road on Tuesday (May 21) died on scene, according to the RCMP.

Police had responded to a single-vehicle crash at about 10:18 am involving a flat-deck tow truck driven by the 49-year-old man.

Once it was determined to have been a medical problem, emergency personnel attempted life-saving measures. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

There is no foul play suspected, according to police.
