Greater Victoria gas prices jump 10 cents per litre

If you want a scare on Halloween, just take a look at this morning’s gas prices.

Overnight prices jumped approximately 10 cents per litre — from around $1.26 per litre of regular grade gas, to an average of $1.379 at Greater Victoria filling stations, according to the gas price monitoring website GasBuddy.com.

Among the lowest prices listed (and seen on this morning commute to work) was Peninsula Co-op at $1.359 per litre or regular grade fuel. And Costco on Millstream Road reportedly has regular gas at $1.289/lt., making it the lowest in the region.

Pump, on Stelly’s Cross Road in Central Saanich, is listed on victoriagasprices.com at having regular at $1.357 per litre, and Chevron in Brentwood Bay with $1.349/lt.

Zoom Food and Gas in Sooke lists regular at $1.333 and Malahat Gas prices at $1.319.

The site suggests the prices are trending higher and B.C. has the highest gas prices in the country — at an average of $1.312 per litre.

The lowest is Saskatechwan ($1.039/lt.) and Alberta ($1.053/lt.).

According to GasBuddy analyst Patrick DeHaan, commenting mainly on the rise of gas prices in the U.S.: “the unseasonable rise is mainly due to soaring gas prices in the Great Lakes and surrounding areas as inventories in that region hit two-year lows as refinery maintenance was pushed back … leading to less production and lower supply.”

As well, they point to a rebound in oil prices, moving higher over “geopolitical tensions and declining inventories.”
