Nearly 3,500 without power as winds gust to 90km/h in Greater Victoria

Winds gusting to 90 km/h are expected near Juan de Fuca Strait, easing midday.

Once anticipated to be the lone sunny day of the week in Greater Victoria, Wednesday (Dec. 18) will start windy.

The sun is still set to appear as the region faces gusty westerly winds in the wake of a passing cold front, according to Environment Canada which issued a warning shortly after 6 a.m.

Winds gusting to 90 km/h are expected near Juan de Fuca Strait, easing midday. 

Several power outages just after 5:30 a.m. in the Sooke area left nearly 3,500 customers in the dark.

The forecast calls for rain right through to midweek with a high of 11C Saturday (Dec. 21) and overnight temperatures dipping as low as 6C Monday.
