Investigators arrest 14 people in alleged casino bust in Saanich

Saanich police and provincial illegal gaming investigators conducted the raid

Trays of half-eaten vegetables and sandwiches were left in the kitchen of a former Saanich medical clinic after a B.C. anti-gang agency and police conducted a raid on an alleged illegal casino operating out of the building.

Fourteen people were arrested after the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit B.C.'s illegal gaming investigators executed a search warrant at the former Cook and Quadra Medical Clinic on Aug. 8.

The suspects were arrested "in connection with an ongoing investigation into an alleged illegal gaming house," according to CFSEU-BC spokesperson Lindsey Houghton.

"The house was found to have been essentially converted into a 'casino,'" noted Houghton in an emailed statement. "As the investigation is ongoing, we have no additional information to share."

The clinic closed it's doors in June 2022 after Dr. Peter Vizsolyi decided to retire from daily family medicine.

The people who were arrested have been released pending further investigation.
