Police incident closes Oak Bay Avenue

Police have not yet shared details of the incident

A portion of the 1600-block of Oak Bay Avenue is closed due to a police incident on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

According to social media posts, police and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team responded to the incident in the morning, and vehicles are being rerouted on Morrison Street and Fort Street.

Police said in a statement that there is no threat to public safety but "the area has been closed off until the issue is resolved."

As the incident is ongoing and in the early stages, police will not share further information.

A resident of the neighbourhood told Black Press the GVERT team surrounded an apartment building and the elevator was shut down.

"And they used a drone to film the building, quite creepy actually," noted an email from the resident.
