Restaurants struggling to keep their doors open is nothing new to Victoria's dining scene. But now a worker at Victoria's Brasserie L’Ecole is taking matters into their own hands to keep the ovens burning.
“For over two decades, Brasserie L’Ecole has been more than just a place to eat – it has been a home away from home for countless Victorians,” stated the GoFundMe page an employee established to support the Government Street restaurant.
The small French restaurant has served the community since 2001 and has faced many challenges in recent years, such as the COVID-19 pandemic which nearly shut them down.
“We fought to keep serving the people who have supported us for so long, and now, we are asking for your help once again,” states the GoFundMe page.
“Like many local businesses, we are still playing financial catch-up. Rising costs, economic hurdles and lingering debt have made it difficult to keep up, but we are determined to continue serving the community that has given us so much.”
The GoFundMe page that was established has already reached 76 per cent of the $7,500 goal to keep the restaurant running.
“Your generosity will not only help us stay open but will also allow us to continue giving back in the ways we always have – whether it’s supporting local charities, sourcing from nearby farmers, or being a place where everyone feels at home,” it says. “If you’ve ever laughed over a meal here, shared a drink with a friend, or felt the warmth of our hospitality, we ask you to consider donating.”
