Get ready for some fun with your furry friends at the Vancouver Island Pet Expo!

Are your pets ‘people’ too?

A vast majority of pet owners describe their pets as family members.

Not surprisingly, these pet owners are often willing to spend a little more money to indulge their pets and care for their health – treating their pets in many ways as if they are their children.

The “pets as family” trend has given rise to a wide variety of high-end pet products and services, including pet day care, dog fitness trackers, premium pet food, concierge services and more.

In many households, small dogs – under 25 pounds – are the family pet of choice, rather than medium or large dogs.

What’s driving this trend?

Aging baby boomers may prefer small dogs, as they are easier to lift and require less outdoor time. Smaller dogs also fit well in apartments and urban settings.

Regardless of the size and type of pet in your home, all well-behaved pets are welcome at the Victoria Pet Expo – a great opportunity to check out the tasty treats, meet other dogs and owners, and even enjoy a little friendly competition. Check out the Dock Dogs Aquatic competition – including the 27,000 gallon pool! – the agility demonstrations, and of course, the Dachshund Dash races are just too much fun.

The only show of it’s kind on Vancouver Island, the expo is designed to educate and entertain the public about the wonderful world of pets. See a wide variety of animals up close, experience talented pets during presentations and learn everything you need to know about your pet.

Don’t miss out! Visit the Vancouver Island Pet Expo April 14 and 15 at Pearkes Rec Centre in Saanich. Learn more at vancouverislandpetexpo.com
