Abandoned van leads Victoria police to 911 caller

North Saanich teen claims man stole his wallet and vehicle; VicPD doesn't buy it

A North Saanich teen is facing impaired driving and public mischief charges after police claim he crashed his van then reported it stolen Wednesday.

Around 2:30 a.m., VicPD responded to a 911 call from a 17-year-old man at Clover Point who said he had just been robbed of his wallet and van at knifepoint.

The van was located near Hollywood Crescent and St. Charles Street with extensive damage, and police believe the teen wanted to avoid responsibility and an impaired driving charge.
