Belmont Secondary School will have a new artificial-turf field in the new year.

The turf at Goudy Field in Langford is being replaced as part of an upgrade so the City donated its existing turf to School District 62.

The field will be ready for use likely around the end of January, according to SD62 spokesperson Lindsay Vogan.

“This is a perfect time of year to have the turf installed,” said Jim Lamond, principal at Belmont Secondary School. “With heavy rain and soggy weather through the fall and winter, our PHE classes and athletic teams have had difficulty using the grass field due to its conditions.”

Lamond said the turf field will be a good addition to the school, allowing classes and teams to use the field year-round.
