Black eye, stitches for woman hit by elderly scooter driver

An elderly man zipping along in an electric scooter hit a woman Tuesday, causing her to fall and suffer several injuries.

At 8:45 a.m., the scooter ran into the back of a woman's heel as she walked to work on Quadra Street, near Kings Road. Instead of stopping, he carried on.

The woman fell, hitting her head and cutting her right eyebrow. She got a black eye, cuts to her nose, cheek and knees, and a sore ankle.

Later, at the hospital, the woman needed five stitches to close the gash above her eye.

The woman told police the scooter driver is an elderly man with white hair, a cream-coloured jacket and a golfer's hat. The scooter is red with the chair raised high and no side rails.
