Police expect to reopen a Saanich intersection by 10 a.m. after a burst water main near Carey Road and Cadillac Avenue diverted traffic this morning.

A road sweeper and crews are clearing water from the road and laying down salt in case of freezing temperatures. Crews expect it to take six or seven hours to repair the water main.

Saanich Police say the hazard, discovered around 6 a.m. caused water to spill out onto the roadway including the Galloping Goose and Uptown area.

Police have the Galloping Goose trail and surrounding streets blocked off until municipal staff are able to resolve the issue.

Vehicle and pedestrian traffic are asked to divert their commute at this time.
