Solar-powered hot water tanks are the way of the future, and the Capital Regional District wants to kickstart that revolution.
The CRD is offering 100, first come, first served financial grants to help cover the cost of a solar hot water system, modelled on a Colwood pilot program in operation since 2011.
“Solar Colwood has been one of the most successful solar programs in Canada, second only to the nearby T’Sou-ke First Nation for the number of solar systems per capita,” said Colwood Mayor Carol Hamilton.
“We’re excited to partner with the CRD to extend the grants to residents throughout the Capital Region and allow more homes and businesses to benefit from free, renewable energy.”
The grants, funded through the federal Clean Energy Fund, cover up to a third of the cost of solar panelling and a hot water tank. After incentives, the system costs about $5,500.
