Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash involving a Chevrolet Corvette and Royal Roads Cafe

A yellow Chevrolet Corvette crashed into the Royal Roads Cafe on Tuesday at 8:10 p.m.

The vehicle was travelling eastbound on Sooke Road when "it appeared to spin out and hit a utility pole and slammed into the corner of the building," said acting Sgt. Kathy Rochlitz, West Shore RCMP.

The damage to both the building and the vehicle are estimated at $10,000, she  said.

The driver was issued a ticket for driving without due care.

"Speed is believed to be a factor," Rochlitz said. "The damage is quite extensive."
