Chavez fans want Victoria to send condolences

Hope to see family of dead Venezuelan president acknowledged

Numerous impassioned speakers took to the microphone Thursday protesting a statement made by Prime Minister Stephen Harper in response to the death of former Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez.

The speakers hope council will issue their own statement of condolence to the family of Chavez.

Coun. Chris Coleman said council needs to tread carefully when addressing federal foreign policy, but welcomed the opportunity to hear from residents on “non-municipal centric” issues.
