The City of Victoria wants to tap into local brainpower by appointing residents for two committees that will shape the city's future.
Applications are being accepted until Feb. 26 for the corporate services and standing committee, which deals with communications and civic engagement, finance policy development and performance management; and for the community services committee, which will tackle policy on environment, parks, affordable housing and transportation issues.
“Our citizens are knowledgeable and passionate and the city can benefit tremendously from their involvement,” said Mayor Dean Fortin. “This is an exciting opportunity for citizens to work directly with councillors and provide input into key issues that help shape the future of our city.”
Each committee will be comprised of four council members and three citizen members. Committees meet once per month for approximately two hours.
Council is also seeking to appoint residents to the Board of Cemetery trustees and the Victoria Family Court and youth justice committee.
