COVID-19 outbreak declared in Saanich Peninsula Hospital’s long-term care unit

Two staff members, three residents tested positive as of Jan. 11

Island Health declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital’s long-term care department on Tuesday (Jan. 11).

Positive tests of two staff members and three long-term care residents prompted the outbreak declaration. The hospital’s extended care units are not impacted by the outbreak, according to Island Health.

Outbreak protocols including enhanced cleaning, symptom screening, limiting of staff movement and possible testing have been implemented, the statement said.

An outbreak in two general medicine unit rooms at Victoria General Hospital has been declared over. Two patient cases led to that outbreak being announced Dec. 31.
