CRD takes aim at drug-impaired driving in contest

The Capital Regional District's Traffic and Safety Commission is taking aim at drug-impaired driving in a new video contest.

As part of the commission's Don't Drug and Drive contest, young local videographers and schools are being asked to create a six-second video about the effects of driving under the influence of drugs.

The contest is open to young people who are residents of the CRD in two age groups — 18 and under, and 19 to 25.

"Young people can provide important insights into societal challenges," said CRD Traffic and Safety Commission chair Colin Plan, who is also a teacher.

"The commission believes that inviting our region's youth to come up with messages that resonate with their peers is an effective way to reduce the increasing number of deaths and injuries resulting from crashes caused by drivers who were high."

First and second prizes will be awarded in both categories, and the high school whose students submit the most entries will win their choice of a MacBook Pro, Surface Pro, or iPad Pro. For more information visit crdtrafficsafety.ca.
