Cridge Park honours namesake

After months of investment in Cridge Park, the descendants of Bishop Edward Cridge joined the mayor to cut cake and celebrate the park’s renewal.

The long-neglected greenspace on Belleville and Blanshard streets was slated for redevelopment, but city council had a change of heart. Instead, the park will get new lighting, paved paths, wrought iron fences, bench seating and a plaza. The ceremony honoured the installation of the final piece: interpretive plaques commemorating the park’s history.

Bishop Cridge was one of Victoria’s earliest philanthropists. Audrey Cridge Finch, his oldest living descendant, and her great grandson Logan O’Brien attended the ceremony.
