Curbside recycling pick up cancelled in Greater Victoria due to icy roads

The decision to resume will be made at 6 a.m. daily: CRD

Victoria’s blue box curbside collection is cancelled for Tuesday, Dec. 28. as a result of this weeks icy roads and unsafe weather conditions.

The Capital Regional District advised the 123,000 single-family homes affected to hold onto their accumulated recycling until the next collection day, as there’s no limit on how much can be left out for collection. Recyclables can also be dropped at a depot, a full list of which is available at crd.bc.ca/curbside.

The decision, which is made on a day-by-day basis, took into account the difficulty of making several stop-and-go collections. “While the main roads might be OK, the side roads are difficult to navigate,” said Tom Watkins, manager of environmental resource management for the CRD.

The decision to resume collection will be made each day at 6 a.m., Watkins said. While he’s optimistic they’ll be able to resume tomorrow, he said the decision will take into account the 5 cm of snow forecasted for Greater Victoria on Dec. 29.
