Daytime burglaries interrupted by homeowners

In both cases, residents were at home when burglar attempted to break in

As a burglar was preparing to break into a North Park woman's home on Friday when she had the foresight to call police and find safety by locking herself in her bathroom.

A 34-year-old Victoria man, who is well-known to police, was nabbed by officers as he was allegedly using a screwdriver to pry open the backdoor of a home in the 1000-block of North Park St. around 2:30 p.m.

Police are also looking into whether the same man broke into a house 90 minutes earlier in the 1000-block of Mason St. The crime scenes are two blocks away.

The female homeowner also contacted police after the would-be burglar entered the premises.

"It is disturbing that it happened when people were home, but break and enters happen more often in the daytime because people are at work," said police spokesperson, Const. Mike Russell.
