Oak Bay police officers were forced to leap out of harm’s way after a driver steamed through a roadblock, according to police.
Police were speaking to a driver at a roadblock near Beach Drive and Windsor Road on June 2, shortly after 11:30 p.m., when they heard another engine rev, Oak Bay Police Department said in a news release.
A driver about four cars back from the stopped vehicle suddenly pulled into the oncoming lane and accelerated toward the officers – forcing them off the road to avoid being hit.
Officers noted the licence plate and alerted neighbouring police departments. The vehicle and a 40-year-old woman driving were located in Victoria after being involved in a traffic incident there. A suspect was taken into custody and VicPD is recommending charges.
It was among the 90 calls for service to the Oak Bay Police Department the week of May 29 to June 4.

Deer in traffic
Oak Bay officers saved a fawn after a resident called to report it under a parked vehicle near Oliver Street and Central Avenue.
The resident spotted the young deer mid-morning May 31 and said they saw a doe walking around vehicles and into traffic trying to get to the fawn. Out of concern the doe would be hit by a driver, officers move the fawn off the road and under some nearby cedar bushes where the pair could reunite safely.

Costly lapsed insurance
A traffic stop and forgetting to renew cost a driver nearly $600 last week.
Officers doing traffic enforcement May 30 near Beach Drive and Dorset Road stopped a driver and learned the vehicle had not been insured since February. The registered owner of the vehicle was ticketed for driving without insurance and issued a $598 fine.
School vandalized
Someone spray painted a basketball court and threw a rock through a window at Monterey Middle School last week. The damage was discovered May 30 and reported to police. The damage was reported to the school board.
