A Greater Victoria woman is lucky to be alive after her vehicle slammed into a hydro pole at 130 km/hr on Sunday night.

Victoria police responded to the collision at Bay and Government streets around 10 p.m. and found the driver suffering from chest pain, a result of slamming against the deployed airbag.

A portion of the vehicle had been sheared off during impact, but the woman remarkably only suffered non-life threatening injuries, said VicPD spokesman Bowen Osoko.

The circumstances leading to the collision are still under investigation, but impaired driving is believed to be a factor, Osoko said.
