Esquimalt Fire Rescue and the Department of National Defence firefighters acted quickly to contain a restaurant fire Thursday on Esquimalt Road.

The fire broke out at Lum's Polynesian Restaurant, 914 Esquimalt Rd., around 4 p.m. and was likely the cause of faulty electrical wiring, said Esquimalt Fire Chief David Ward.

"I don't know the extent of the damage in a dollar figure, but the incident was contained and both adjacent businesses are back operating today," he said.

The cabaret on the upper floor received some smoke damage, and no injuries were sustained as a result of the fire.

"It was actually a good quick response and good support from DND, so it was a success story," Ward said.
