Esquimalt's Brame re-elected to Vancouver Island municipal board

Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities brings Island-centric issues to provincial body in September

Coun. Meagan Brame was re-elected to the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities executive board last week at the organization's annual conference in Sooke.

Sidney Mayor Larry Cross becomes president after serving as vice-president last year.

The association is comprised of municipalities, regional districts and First Nations from Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast, Powell River and the Central Coast. Members pass local resolutions in advance of the Union of B.C. Municipalities conference each year.

B.C. Ferry rates, oil spills and marine disaster response, tsunami debris and farming opportunities on the Island were voted on at the conference.

The AVICC will forward a resolution to the UBCM that asks the B.C. government to ban genetically modificed crops from the Island.
