Few details about 5-hour police standoff on Pandora

Victoria police seize weapon from empty suite

Victoria Police found a weapon inside a Pandora Avenue apartment after a five-hour standoff this week.

The 700-block of Pandora was shut down for five hours Sunday and a handful of people from the apartment were evacuated from their homes. The Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team eventually accessed the building.

Initially, police officers on scene believed there was someone or a group of people inside the suite, said Const. Mike Russell, but by the end of the standoff determined the unit had been empty.

Russell wouldn’t say what type of weapon was inside the suite.

The standoff was part of an investigation by Victoria police’s patrol division, Russell said, but didn’t give more details, saying only that the investigation is not yet complete.

He added police have not made arrests in the case and do not have any warrants out for suspects.
