A fire in Cordova Bay Thursday night that resulted in extensive damage to a home is believed to have been an electrical fire.

Saanich fire crews responded to the 700-block of Destrube Pl., south of Cordova Bay Road near Elk Lake, around 7:15 p.m on June 13.

Smoke and flames were seen coming from the home. Crews were able to successfully control and put out the fire without any injuries to firefighters or residents of the home.

Capt. Rich Pala on Friday said investigators are still determining the exact cause, but there are theories.

"It's not suspicious. Right now what they're looking at is possible electrical, possible dryer," Pala said.

Damage to the home and contents is estimated at $100,000.
