Grow-op bust ends with 'dynamic' arrest in Saanich

Two men were arrested and an estimated 300 marijuana plants were seized Tuesday following a three-month investigation by Saanich police.

Two men were arrested and an estimated 300 marijuana plants were seized Tuesday following a three-month investigation by Saanich police.

The Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant on a home in the 3200-block of Alder St. Tuesday afternoon. A sophisticated grow operation was discovered in the basement of the home.

"There was some information about the possibility for weapons in the residence or possessed by the occupants, so the ERT did a safe entry," said Sgt. Dean Jantzen.

Simultaneously, two men were arrested in a "fairly dynamic" fashion after they were pulled over on Shelbourne Street by ERT members.

Officers were still on the scene Tuesday afternoon and hadn't conducted a thorough sweep of the house, but Jantzen said they estimate 300 plants were found, along with some grow-op related paraphernalia.

"The entire basement consisted of a multi-room operation," he said.

Charges have yet to be laid. Both men remained in police custody on Tuesday.
