Hillside Avenue death ruled a homicide, police say

Police have now confirmed that the death of Joe Gauthier, who was found dead early Saturday at a property along Hillside Avenue, is considered a homicide. However, no charges have yet been laid in the case. Facebook

Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) investigators are calling the death of a a 35-year-old man in the 1400 block of Hillside Avenue last Saturday a homicide.

A release from the unit did not state that charges had been laid in the incident. While sources have told the Victoria News that a suspect turned himself in to police after the incident, requests to the RCMP unit overseeing the case have not confirmed that fact.

The victim in the death has been identified as Joe Gauthier, a father of four who was well-known in the local minor football community.

The police have stated the public is not at risk.
