HMCS Protectuer will be back home tomorrow morning after a Feb. 27 fire stranded the warship off the coast of Hawaii.
The Canadian navy warship will arrive under tow from USNS Salvor and then transferred to local tugs to bring her into the harbour around 6:30 a.m., said Lt.-Cmdr Desmond James. The transfer is expected to take several hours.
"During this time, (Protecteur) will be visible from any public area," he said.
Protecteur's crew were left stranded at sea for several days after the engine room fire knocked out power, while U.S. tugboats pulled her back to Pearl Harbour for assessment. It then took several weeks for crews to get home from Hawaii.
Upon arrival, navy officials will continue to investigate the fire and assess whether Protecteur can be repaired. The ship is scheduled for replacement in the next five years.
