A driver has been charged under the Motor Vehicle Act after Sidney/North Saanich RCMP received a report about a red Audi heading in the wrong direction toward oncoming traffic on the Pat Bay Highway near Beacon Avenue.

Police found the registered owner of the vehicle and the licence plate thanks to dashcam footage provided by the public.

“This was an incredibly dangerous situation and we are grateful that no one was harmed,” RCMP Cpl. Andres Sanchez Flores said in a news release. “It was reported that there were several instances where this driver nearly caused head-on collisions. At highway speeds, this could have been disastrous.”

The investigation is ongoing to determine why the driver went in the wrong direction.
