A thief made off with priceless artifacts from Victoria's Christ Church Cathedral Saturday night.

Stolen items include gold and silver chalices, an 1872 50-cent Canadian coin and a mote spoon. Some of the items date back to the 17th century, said Victoria Police spokesman Bowen Osoko.

"These items are literally irreplaceable and are not just a part of the City of Victoria’s history, but the history of the Cathedral community as well," he said.

VicPD is asking antiques and precious metals dealers to contact police if they recognize any of the unique items on the non-emergency line at 250-995-7654 or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
