Victoria police have arrested a man believed to have injured a traffic officer before making a getaway Thursday afternoon.

VicPD officers were conducting traffic checks on the west side of the Bay Street Bridge yesterday when a motorcyclist began making his way along the shoulder of the bridge.

When officers attempted to flag the man down, he blew past them, clipping a VicPD officer in the process. Police recorded the motorbike's licence plate, but discovered both the motorcycle and non-matching licence plate were stolen.

"A possible suspect was identified and he was eventually located in a residence in the 700-block of Cairn Road in Esquimalt," said Const. Mike Russell. The motorcycle believed used in the hit-and-run was located several hours earlier in the 700-block of Lampson St.

Police scoured the area and discovered a helmet hidden in a garbage can, believed to be the same one worn by the suspect. A search warrant was also executed on the apartment where the suspect was located, where more evidence was seized, Russell said.

The suspect is scheduled for a tele-bail hearing later today, and could face numerous charges as the investigation continues.
