Man assaults random victims in downtown Victoria

Victoria man, 41, faces charges of assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats

Two people are recovering after being randomly assaulted in downtown Victoria by an aggressive man Sunday night.

Around 6:50 p.m., Victoria police arrived to a call in the 1400-block of Wharf St., where several men were holding another man on the ground. The suspect allegedly assaulted a woman on the street and left her with minor head and face wounds before the Good Samaritans intervened.

The suspect was soon connected to another assault on an unsuspecting victim in the 400-block of Swift St. In that case, the man had been hit with a street sign.

Once in police cells, the suspect threatened to harm jail staff, said Bowen Osoko, VicPD spokesman.

"Given the random and unprovoked nature of the assaults, VicPD officers have also recommended the suspect be held pending trial," Osoko said.
