Man fights Saanich police in Broadmead

Saanich police were called Sunday at 5:20 p.m. after an intoxicated 57-year-old man was causing a disturbance in Royal Oak.

Saanich police were called Sunday at 5:20 p.m. after an intoxicated 57-year-old man was causing a disturbance in Royal Oak.

An officer found the man at the Broadmead Shopping Centre. When the officer approached the suspect, he resisted arrest and began to fight.

The officer won and arrested the man, but was struck in the face and suffered a laceration and abrasion injuries.

The suspect narrowly missed kicking another officer in the head when being loaded into the back of a squad car.

The man is expected to face charges of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and breaching probation.
