Victoria police say the success of their annual holiday campaign to take drunk drivers off the roads is in the numbers.
Officers took 67 motorists off city streets between Oct. 30 and Jan. 3, through regular vehicle checks and ICBC's annual CounterAttack program.
At CounterAttack checkpoints, police stopped 14,045 motorists in 2011, up from 12,303 in 2010.
Police recommended charges against seven drivers this year, up five from the year before. Investigators had 77 vehicles impounded this holiday season, over 22 in 2010.
"I don't know if we can attribute that success to less people drinking but we're catching (impaired) people still out there driving," said Const. Mike Russell, Victoria police spokesperson. "So we're glad to get them off the road, but at the same time frustrated and upset that we have a lot of people coming off the road."
