A teenage long-boarder is lucky to have walked away from a crash with just scrapes and bruises, after entering an intersection on a red light and colliding with a car. The incident occurred around 10:10 p.m. on July 26.
The 16-year-old View Royal resident was at the intersection of Agnes Street and Glanford Avenue when she entered the roadway into oncoming traffic.
She struck the back end of a northbound-travelling vehicle and sustained scrapes and abrasions to her legs.
“This could have been much worse. Had she been there just a second prior, she possibly would have been struck by the vehicle head-on,” said Saanich police Sgt. Steve Eassie.
“This is just a reminder to anybody using the roadway that they need to abide by all rules of the road and adhere to traffic control devices. Very clearly she was on the wrong side of the road and was proceeding against the red light.”
The teen was checked out by B.C. Ambulance Service members and was picked up by her mother. No charges are being considered.
