Cyclist sustains injuries from collision

A cyclist struck by a driver who failed to yield sustained only minor injuries according to police, while the driver of the vehicle is now facing fines.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. on May 3, Oak Bay police responded to a call of cyclist struck by a vehicle travelling westbound at the intersection of Cadboro Bay Road and Bowker Avenue.

A 60-year-old Oak Bay resident driving an uninsured 2009 Toyota Camry slowed down for a yield sign before turning right onto Cadboro Bay and struck the rear wheel of the bike, police said.

The driver was issued traffic violation tickets of $598 for driving without insurance and $167 for failing to yield.
