The morning after a disastrous watermain break on Bowker Ave. the residents of the 2000-block are struggling to regain some sense of normalcy in their lives. Water service was restored late last night (Nov. 20) but as of this morning, B.C. Hydro had still not restored power to the area, as concerns about flooded electrical outlets and fire hazards remain an issue.
Sandbags, pumps and hoses still litter the sides of the street but, within homes, emergency renovations and repairs are underway.
Home insurance representatives and renovation and construction firms were out in force late yesterday and are back today to clear the way for rebuilding flooded basement rooms and repairing other damage that occurred when up to four feet of water filled basements early Tuesday morning.
The emergency response centre at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre was closed late yesterday after it was determined that all evacuated residents had food and shelter for the night.
